Q: What kinds of events are listed on the events calendar?

The events calendar is intended to list events happening within the University of Toronto community, including, for example, lectures, seminars and varsity athletics games.

Q: Why don’t I see certain events listed?

The online events calendar contains only events submitted by members of the community and approved for posting. Other events may be listed elsewhere on the U of T website.

There are a number of other reasons why an event might not appear: people affiliated with the event may not have submitted the event for publishing; someone may have submitted the event with insufficient or inappropriate information; the event date may have passed (in which case it no longer displays on the events calendar); or the event may be listed in a different category (e.g., Athletics & Recreation rather than Performance).

You can view all events by going to the events homepage (www.events.utoronto.ca) or selecting “Upcoming Events” from any page within the events calendar site.

Q: How can I gain posting privileges for publishing events?

To gain posting privileges for publishing events, submit a request through the “Request posting privileges” link from any page within the events calendar site. You are asked to provide the following information:

  • Full name
  • UTORid
  • Status at U of T
    • i.e., student, faculty or staff
  • Sponsor and name of supervisor
    • i.e., the department or group on behalf of which the person will be posting
  • Event categories you wish to access

The events calendar administrator, in consultation with the University events calendar committee, will respond to requests for access.

Q: Who provides the information in this calendar? What if I have a question or comment about an event listed in the calendar?

The calendar is a collection of event information from various areas of the University. Every event listing includes a contact name for more information about that event.

Q: Is this calendar for students or faculty or staff? How can I find the events I’m interested in attending?

The calendar is intended for the entire University community. To narrow your search results, the calendar allows you to sort by desired audience, event category, or department name. To suggest an additional audience, category or department, please email the events calendar administrator at events@utoronto.ca.

Q: How do I submit an event that doesn’t fit into a listed category?

For events that do not fall into a listed category or event type, it might be appropriate to use the “Sponsor” field to describe the event category. For example, for events related to Fall Orientation Week, you can submit your event listing “Fall Orientation Week 2007” as the sponsor.

If there is an audience, category or department not listed that you would like to see in the events calendar, please contact the events calendar administrator at events@utoronto.ca.

Q: How can I report event posting errors?

If you find errors or inaccuracies in an event posting, you can get in touch with the contact person listed in the posting. Inappropriate postings may be brought to the attention of the events calendar administrator.

Q: How can I have my event appear on the U of T homepage?

On the the event submission form, select “Featured Events” and “UofT homepage” in the Event Type field. The events administrator for the homepage will be automatically notified of your request to have your event appear on the homepage. Events will be reviewed and ranked based on their type and the breadth of their potential audience to determine if they should appear as a featured event on the homepage.

Q: Who has access to this calendar?

The events website is publicly available. Anyone in the world, including current students, alumni and media, may view all posted events.

Q: What does “Get RSS feed” mean?

RSS is a syndication format that allows users to subscribe to a feed that notifies them of the most recent additions to the types of events that interest them. To subscribe, click on the “Get RSS feed” link and follow the instructions.
The U of T events calendar is designed to be able to generate an event RSS feed for different audiences, categories and departments.

Q: Can I view only certain types of events instead of all events?

Yes. To view events for a specific audience group, you can select the desired audience, category or department name from any page in the events website, and a targeted list of events will be listed. If there is an audience, category or department not listed that you would like to see in the events calendar, please contact the events calendar administrator at events@utoronto.ca.
